Snohomish County is taking the fight against methamphetamine online.
A slick new Web site for the upcoming Snohomish County Youth Meth Summit features information about the highly addictive drug plus eye-grabbing photographs.
A jarring series of 10 black-and-white pictures show how one woman’s 10-year battle with meth wore down her body. Another photo shows a body lying in a morgue, with the message, "Your future, courtesy of meth."
The design is meant to appeal mostly to youths, who can use the site to find out how meth affects your brain, read stories about the devastation the drug causes and register for the Feb. 5 Youth Meth Summit.
The site was created for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office with the help of local volunteers. A Leadership Snohomish County group called "The Visioneers" raised $44,000 in donations to design the site.
"We wanted to do the Web site so people can gain as much information as possible and know that Snohomish County is concerned about this particular issue and is stepping up to the plate," said Deborah McSwain, the group’s project adviser.
The donations paid for the professional design by Luminous Corp. of Everett. The team wrote the content with the help of the Snohomish County anti-drug group Lead On America.
The site has in-depth information for youths, parents and teachers, with tips and places to contact for extra help.
"We really want the Web site to have an impact," McSwain said.
The Leadership Snohomish County group that worked on the site included Tim Serban, Michele Brown, Stefan McIntosh, Claudia Overton Underhill, Anita Morrison and Pam Sipos.
