EVERETT – Geri Modrell of Everett has been elected chairwoman of the Snohomish County Republican Party for the next two years.
The party’s precinct committee officers selected Modrell on Saturday. She was unopposed.
She will succeed Steve Neighbors as the guiding voice and force of the county’s GOP operation. Modrell had served as a county representative on the state committee for the Republican Party.
“I have been a volunteer for seven years and I am completely frustrated watching the downslide of Republican principles,” she said Monday.
“I wanted to see if someone could step forward and say that and reinvigorate the grass roots to win,” she said. “I can tell you there is a renewed energy in the party and you’re going to hear it.”
Modrell said she will work to raise more money for campaigns, improve the recruiting of candidates and expand the number of precinct committee officers.
James Kellett of Snohomish was elected vice chairman of the county party. Dullaine Ehrlich of Mill Creek and Jason Bontrager of Bothell were selected to serve on the state committee.
Bontrager also will be the county’s representative on that panel’s executive board. He will succeed activist Jim Donner, who did not seek re-election.
Snohomish County Democrats will elect their leaders this Saturday. Chairman Mark Hintz is unopposed for a second term.
