The Snohomish County director of public works, Peter Hahn, has resigned after more than 13 years on the job.
On Monday, County Executive Aaron Reardon named Steve Thomsen to fill Hahn’s position as acting department director.
Thomsen was the deputy director and county engineer.
Hahn resigned Friday and will be drawing vacation time until February, Deputy County Executive Mark Soine said.
“Executive Reardon and I have the greatest confidence in Steven Thomsen and the leadership he brings to the Public Works Department,” Soine said.
When asked what the county loses with Hahn’s resignation, Soine said the county’s focus is instead on the future and Thomsen’s strengths.
Hahn told his bosses that he believed change is not a bad thing, and something that could be particularly good and invigorating, Soine said.
Hahn was hired as the county public works director in 1992 after eight years in Edmonds.
His resignation comes as the Snohomish County Council prepares to approve a 20-year plan for population, housing and transportation.
