KELSO — A Cowlitz County judge has sentenced a Longview couple who were convicted of withholding food from two of their five adopted children.
On Thursday, Judge Michael Evans sentenced Rebecca Trebilcock to 8½ years, three years more than the penalty he gave her husband, Jeffery Trebilcock.
The Daily News of Longview reported that the judge said the woman was the one handling most of the child care.
After a two-week bench trial last month, Evans found that the couple starved their then-13-year-old adopted son nearly to death and denied a significant amount of food to his biological sister. The girl was 12 when she and her adopted siblings were seized by the state last year.
Evans found the Trebilcocks guilty of first-degree criminal mistreatment of the boy and third-degree criminal mistreatment of his sister.
Prosecutors alleged the couple also denied food to three other adopted girls. However, the judge acquitted the Trebilcocks of those charges.
