SNOHOMISH – A Snohomish couple lucked out on the eve of their lucky wedding day.
Harjeet Heer and Gurpreet Johal on Friday won a contest, sponsored by Macy’s, that asked couples how they decided to get hitched today – 07/07/07.
Hundreds of thousands of couples plan to get married on the date, which is available only once this century.
Heer and Johal on Friday were whisked away in a limousine with their family to the downtown Seattle Macy’s. They received a cake, sparkling cider and a $1,500 Macy’s gift card.
In the contest, Heer shared her story about why she picked today as her wedding date.
When Heer was a girl, she asked her mother if she could play basketball.
Sure, her mother said.
What number should I be? Heer asked.
Go for seven, the mother said. It’s a lucky number; it is good for you.
Her mother died, and as Heer grew into a woman and met Johal, she picked the triple seven date to start a new chapter of her life, 15 years after losing her mother.
“I felt this date was making her a part of my wedding and in the same note getting her blessing,” Heer said in her entry for the contest.
