MABTON — About 100 firefighters are attacking a wildfire that has burned across 5 1/2 square miles near Mabton in south-central Washington.
Fire spokesman Ron Fryer said the blaze that started Tuesday initially threatened 10 homes but now is just threatening two. He said no evacuations have been ordered.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reported that by late Wednesday, the fire was about 45 percent contained with officials hoping for full containment by late Thursday.
