SEATTLE — Safety repairs on the Coupeville ferry terminal means suspended service on the Coupeville/Port Townsend ferry route this weekend.
Officials say the repair work will impact service on Saturday and Sunday. They expect service to resume on Monday.
Transportation officials say customers should use the Edmonds/Kingston and Mukilteo/Clinton ferries instead. Officials will add a third ferry to the Edmonds/Kingston route on Sunday.
Repair crews plan to replace a worn-out hinge and a 21-foot-long movable bridge used to connect the docked ferries to the terminal.
While the Port Townsend terminal is closed on Saturday, local, state and federal agencies plan to conduct a day-long training exercise that will include helicopters, fire trucks, ambulances and EMS personnel. A Coast Guard air crew from Air Station Port Angeles will take part in the exercise.
