FAIRBANKS, Alaska — A man in handcuffs escaped from an Alaska state trooper into subzero temperatures in Fairbanks but was recaptured later hiding in the bed of a pickup truck.
Authorities said 20-year-old Jordan Stephens of Anchorage was wearing a hoodie, jeans and tennis shoes. When captured, he had a jacket around his wrists to conceal the cuffs. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported he was hypothermic and taken Friday to the hospital.
Troopers said a hotel employee told them Stephens was hanging around the lobby with no plans to rent a room.
When he gave a false name, a trooper tried to arrest him, but he bolted. He was spotted in a supermarket parking lot that night. The charges include escape and probation violations.
