There’s been a flurry of people entering and exiting legislative races in Snohomish County in recent days.
Republican Steve Dana ended his campaign against state Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, and promptly endorsed the other GOP hopeful in the race, Shahram Hadian.
“Circumstances in my life have changed recently and after substantial consideration, I have determined that I cannot continue with a campaign while taking care of my family obligations. To that end, I am compelled to abandon this legislative campaign,” Dana wrote on his blog.
Meanwhile, Iris Lilly, vice chairwoman of the Snohomish County Republican Party, has launched a campaign against Rep. Mike Sells, D-Everett.
“I am running for the State Legislature because I believe our government has moved away from what our founding fathers intended when they wrote the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. I believe it was their intention that our voices be heard through citizen legislators. Our voices are NOT being heard and I want to try to change that and help us find our voices,” Lilly writes online.
And in South County, Democrat Kirstin Haugen, chairwoman of the Cascadia Community College Board of Trustees, sent me an e-mail saying she is no longer running to succeed the retiring Rep. Al O’Brien, D-Mountlake Terrace.
Haugen was the first Democrat to enter the race. Soon after five other Democrats and two Republicans formed campaign committees to seek the office.
Formal filing period for candidates in all races is June 7-11.
