HILLSBORO, Ore. — A Washington County man accused of fatally stabbing his former girlfriend while on temporary release from a halfway house now faces charges that could result in the death penalty.
The Oregonian reports that a grand jury indicted Eric C. Petersen on aggravated murder and sexual assault charges in the August death of 24-year-old Aimie Zdrantan.
Records show he had violated a restraining order she sought, and days before the killing, a judge revoked his probation on a weapons charge.
At the time of the killing, he was serving 60 days in a minimum-security transitional facility in Hillsboro and had a day pass to go to a job search service.
He had previously pleaded not guilty to murder, a charge that doesn’t result in the death penalty.
