SEATTLE — The King County prosecutor says he will no longer seek the death penalty in the trial of a former Carnation woman accused of killing her family on Christmas Eve 2007.
The Seattle Times reports King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg announced Wednesday morning that his office will withdraw its notice to seek the death penalty against Michele Anderson.
Satterberg says he initially sought the death penalty in the case against Anderson and her former boyfriend, Joseph McEnroe, because the slayings met the criteria for capital punishment. McEnroe was sentenced in June to life in prison without the possibility of parole, even though he shot five of the six victims.
Satterberg says the decision was not contingent on any plea deal with Anderson’s defense. A member of her defense team told The Times it was too early to comment on whether a plea agreement could be possible.
