OLYMPIA — The state Republican Party is asking state Democrats to return $60,000 of donations from Ramtha School of Enlightenment founder JZ Knight after the release of a video showing the Yelm-based spiritual leader making derogatory comments about Catholics.
The video spliced comments made by Knight with footage of Thurston County Commissioner Sandra Romero, who is running for re-election. A spokesman for Knight says the comments were taken out of context and were in reference to the pedophile scandal involving Catholic priests.
A spokesman for the state Democratic party said that while it doesn’t condone the comments Knight made in the video earlier this year, the party will not return the estimated $60,000 that Knight has given to the party.
Knight has thousands of students who listen to her channel the spirit of an ancient warrior named Ramtha. She established her 80-acre school complex in 1988 in Yelm.
