U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen extended his lead on Republican John Koster Thursday in a nip-and-tuck struggle in the 2nd Congressional District.
Democrat Larsen, who trailed Koster the night of the election, moved in front by 1,451 votes in Thursday’s round of ballot counting.
The two Arlington natives are vying in the district that stretches from Mukilteo to the Canadian border and includes north Snohomish County and all of Island, Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan counties.
Larsen is winning by large enough margins in Whatcom and San Juan counties to overcome a deficit to Koster in the other counties.
Meanwhile, two Democratic state lawmakers in Snohomish County are getting a little breathing space in their contests.
State Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens, pushed his lead on Republican challenger Dave Schmidt to 256 votes in Thursday’s tally. The freshman senator, who had led by just eight votes on election night, is up by a margin of 50.3 percent to 49.7 percent.
Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, enjoyed a more comfortable lead of 1,043 votes on Republican Bob McCaughan.
Hobbs and Dunshee serve in the 44th Legislative District that includes Snohomish, Mill Creek and Lake Stevens.
And in south Snohomish County, Democrat Luis Moscoso of Mountlake Terrace pulled ahead of Republican Heidi Munson of Bothell by 20 votes Thursday. They are competing for a legislative seat in the 1st District that straddles King and Snohomish counties.
