MONROE — A Monroe man was arrested Monday night after allegedly shooting another person.
On Monday night, the man, 26, was following another driver in his car, according to a Snohomish County deputy’s report. The two had been in a crash and the Monroe man, who was driving a white Subaru, was reportedly following the other driver in the 13300 block of Wagner Road near Monroe to get his insurance information.
The other driver put his green pickup in reverse and rammed the Monroe man’s Subaru, video taken by a witness reportedly shows. Another witness reported they were hitting each other “like bumper cars.”
Right after, eight to ten gunshots can be heard on the video, according to the deputy’s report. The witness told police the Monroe man got out of his Subaru and started shooting.
The person in the green pickup was hit twice, in the leg and shoulder, according to police.
The Monroe man then tried to run and threw his pistol over a fence, witnesses told investigators. He tried to retrieve the gun, but witnesses reportedly stopped him.
When the wounded person got out of his truck, he was covered in blood, a witness reported. He was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
When law enforcement arrived, the Monroe man was on his knees with his hands in the air, according to a deputy’s report. He reportedly said it was self-defense because the other person was ramming his car. He also reported he had a concealed pistol license and kept the gun for self-defense against drunken drivers.
The man reportedly told the deputy he didn’t want this to happen. He just wanted the insurance information.
The suspect was arrested for investigation of first-degree assault. He remained at the Snohomish County Jail on Tuesday.
