PORT ORCHARD — Kitsap County Sheriff Steve Boyer says one of the deputies wounded in the shootout at the Port Orchard Walmart was so focused on giving first aid to his partner that he didn’t realize how badly he had been hit.
The deputies were shot Sunday in a confrontation with 31-year-old Anthony Martinez, of Salt Lake City. Martinez was shot and killed by a third deputy, and a young woman died of a gunshot wound.
One deputy has been released the hospital and the other should be out in a day or two.
Boyer told KIRO-TV that after he had been shot, one deputy began aiding the more seriously wounded officer. Boyer says he was concentrating so hard that he didn’t realize the extent of his own wound.
