KENT — Police in the Seattle suburb of Kent say a Seattle police gang detective was punched and bitten and a deputy prosecutor was kicked in the chest during a courthouse fight that was related to a drive-by shooting trial.
A 23-year-old Renton man was arrested after Monday’s brawl at the regional justice center.
Kent Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery said a number of people connected with the drive-by defendant showed up in court, behaving in a manner apparently meant to intimidate the victim and witnesses. As people left the courtroom for recess, Lowery said that behavior “picked up again.”
The fight started when the gang detective tried to separate the defendant’s supporters from others at the trial. Lowery says the prosecutor got kicked when he came to the detective’s aid.
The fight was captured on surveillance cameras.
