Disabled woman dies in Sunnyside house fire

SUNNYSIDE — A 51-year-old disabled woman died in a house fire at Sunnyside that was fanned by 30 mph winds.

Firefighters say a 51-year-old man in the home attempted to rescue the woman early Tuesday but was driven back by smoke and heat. He was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Yakima County Coroner Jack Hawkins identified the victim as Kimberly Weathers.

The Yakima Herald-Republic report there was no working fire alarm in the home.
