OLYMPIA — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says there was “discord” between a man and his 13-year-old son who shot him to death as he slept at their home near Olympia.
The boy had said the Sunday night shooting was an accident. The sheriff’s office says witness testimony describes discord between the two. Investigators also say the shot was fire at close range. The boy said the rifle was 10 or 12 feet away when it fired.
The boy has been charged in juvenile court with second-degree murder in the death of Jimmie Asher Jr., 39.
The boy’s lawyer, James Dixon, told The Olympian he’ll plead not guilty at his arraignment Nov. 9.
