ALDER – A 15-year-old boy drowned Sunday while swimming in Alder Lake in south Pierce County, the Pierce County sheriff’s office said.
The boy was reported missing in the lake at about 4:40 p.m., and his body was recovered by a sheriff’s dive team at about 6 p.m., sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
No further details were available.
Alder Lake is about 30 miles south of Tacoma.

Roof catches fire: A 12-story downtown apartment building was evacuated after its roof caught fire Saturday, the Seattle Fire Department said. The fire at the building in the 1400 block of Hubbell Place, just east of the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, was reported about 3 p.m. and was brought under control by about 6:30 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Sheila Strehle said. No damage estimate immediately was available, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Man killed when car hits house: Authorities are investigating the death of a 61-year-old Vancouver man who was killed when a car crashed into his living room Friday night. The victim, whose name was not released, was sitting on his couch when the car crashed through the wall of his house. Two other people inside the house were treated and released at a Portland hospital. Police said the car ran a red light and hit a van before crashing into the home.
