EDMONDS — Police here are seeking clues after a dog was found killed and mutilated Friday in his owners’ back yard, which borders the Interurban Trail.
The owners let their small dog out around 10 p.m., Edmonds police Sgt. Shane Hawley said. They went searching about a half hour later to find him dead. They took the body to a veterinarian, who said it was unlikely that another animal inflicted the fatal injuries. The pet appeared to have been stabbed or impaled and a patch of skin was missing.
Police found no obvious clues in their initial search of the area along the 23700 block of 74th Avenue West, near Lake Ballinger, Hawley said. The owners heard no commotion. Their yard has a short fence around it.
No other attacks of this kind have been reported in the area, Hawley said.
Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious is encouraged to call the Edmonds Police Department at 425-775-3000 or leave an anonymous tip at www.edmondswa.gov/police/anonymous-tip.html.
