Dog in hot spot alerts woman to bedroom fire

EDMONDS — A barking dog and increasing heat alerted a sleeping Edmonds woman Thursday just before midnight that her bedroom was on fire.

The blaze occurred in the 7700 block of 191st Street SW, Edmonds Fire Marshal John Westfall said.

There was no smoke detector, and only the barking dog and heat roused the woman. The woman’s husband was awakened by her screaming.

The woman, her husband and the dog escaped unharmed. The house sustained an estimated $70,000 structural damage and $30,000 to the contents.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined.

Armed robbery: Two armed men grabbed a man and a woman and forced their way into an Everett-area apartment early Friday, robbing the occupants of cash and suspected marijuana.

The incident occurred at 12:08 a.m. at the Shadow Creek Apartments in the 800 block of 112th Street SW, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. A 1-year-old girl inside the apartment was unharmed.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the incident to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.

Cars broken into: Deputies responded to a car break-in Thursday in the 16700 block of Sixth Avenue W. in Mill Creek.

They found not one, but seven cars had been broken into adjacent to the Martha Lake and Millwood Estates apartments.

The officers reported stereos, CDs and personal property were taken.

They arrested a 25-year-old Lynnwood man at the scene.

Woman killed: A 79-year-old Seattle woman was killed Tuesday night when the car she was driving plowed into an unoccupied van parked along I-5 just north of the King-Snohomish county line.

The Washington State Patrol identified her as Angelina Maladenovic. She was driving a 1989 Plymouth that collided with the disabled van parked on the southbound shoulder, troopers said.

The van burst into flames, forcing closure of two freeway lanes for about two hours, trooper Lance Ramsay said.
