EVERETT — Animal control officers in Everett are investigating allegations of animal abuse involving an Everett dog owner.
“We’ve received many calls and emails from citizens who had concerns about postings the dog owner made on Facebook,” said Glynis Frederiksen, Everett’s animal shelter manager. “We take these allegations very seriously and our animal control officers are actively investigating the case.”
The dog owner posted photos that appeared to show her dog with a urine-soaked pad over its head, city officials said.
The investigation is not expected to be completed until next week.
If the investigation finds evidence of cruelty or neglect, the case will be forwarded to city prosecutors to review for potential charges under city code.
The shelter’s animal control unit enforces City of Everett animal codes and provides education and outreach programs throughout the city. In 2015, animal control officers investigated nearly 260 complaints of animal abuse.
