EVERETT — Pick a color, any color. Black? White? Black and white? Orange? How about a grouchy-looking Siamese?
They’re cats, recently rescued, and they all need new homes.
On Thursday, some came to the front of their cages purred, meowed and posed.
These cats, about 11 of the more than 40 removed on July 31 from deplorable conditions in a Lynnwood-area home, showed off in preparation for their debut Saturday when officials will put them up for adoption.
For now, most of the cats are known by numbers only. Their ongoing care, as well as giving them names, will be up to the people who give the cats a loving home, Everett Animal Shelter spokeswoman Hilary Anne Hager said.
“If they’re doing well here, they’re going to do great in a home,” she said.
The Lynnwood woman who owned the cats was believed to have been a hoarder and suffered from a medical condition. The woman died the day after a 911 call for a medical emergency led to the discovery of the cats. A relative released the animals to county officials.
In addition to the cats, most of which were covered with fleas and urine, officials also rescued several finches. The birds also will be made available for adoption.
The cats being offered Saturday range in age from young adult to about 3 years old. All will be spayed or neutered.
Some kittens also were rescued but none will be put up for adoption immediately.
The kittens and some other adult cats requiring ongoing medical care will be placed with foster families for now.
Other cats, including a couple who hissed at curious reporters Thursday, will go to approved rescue organizations for medical treatment and socialization, Hager said.
Shelter staff expect the rescued cats to go quickly for adoption. But families don’t need to worry.
There are plenty of other cats, kittens, dogs, birds and other animals available for adoption at the shelter, Hager said.
