EVERETT — The steady downpour that dumped a half inch of rain on Everett on Monday morning should let up today.
The sun even might make a cameo appearance on Wednesday and Thursday before more rain is expected Friday and into the weekend.
Forecasters are predicting that the rivers will come up in Snohomish County, but they expect them to stay within their banks.
The National Weather Service in Seattle reported .61 inches of rain in Everett between 1 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday. That was just shy of the record for that date set in 2005 when .62 inches were recorded, meteorologist Johnny Burg said.
Winds Monday gusted up to 29 mph.
Snohomish County didn’t get hit nearly as hard by rain and wind as the Olympic Peninsula and neighboring counties on and near the coast. A flood warning was issued for the Skokomish River in Mason County; a less-serious flood watch is in effect off the Satsop River in Grays Harbor County.
“We are approaching that season of flooding and winter storms,” Burg said.
While Monday’s rain wasn’t expected to cause flooding here, it could contribute to it later because the ground will get increasingly saturated, Burg said.
Predictions for Tuesday call for a partly sunny day with a high near 58 degrees.
Wednesday’s high could reach 62 with sun breaking through early morning fog. Thursday is supposed to be a repeat of Wednesday until clouds roll in by the evening with a chance of rain.
