ARLINGTON — A Stanwood man has been arrested for investigation of vehicular assault after an 87-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries in a wreck near Arlington last Sunday.
The man, 52, was driving north near the 20200 block of Smokey Point Boulevard around 12:45 a.m. A sharp curve was ahead. The speed limit is reduced along this stretch because of the turn and a slope in the roadway, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Tire marks on the road indicate the Ford Fusion slid into a guardrail, police said. The impact appears to have propelled the car into another guardrail on the opposite side of the road.
An Arlington police sergeant said the car had been heavily damaged. All of the airbags were deployed.
The woman, who was a passenger in the car, had difficulty moving because of her injuries, according to court papers. She was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. Emergency room staff later told police she had a broken jaw.
An officer said the Stanwood driver exhibited several signs of impairment. He has prior DUI arrests from 1998 and 2004. Prosecution had been deferred, according to court papers.
He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail, and was released on bail pending charges.
