LYNNWOOD — A police chase that started in Lynnwood early Wednesday morning ended when the driver ran into a tree in the Swedish/Edmonds hospital parking lot, officials said.
The man, 29, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and later booked into the Snohomish County Jail, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said.
The crash occurred just after midnight when a Lynnwood patrol officer attempted to stop a Lexus SUV that had been reported stolen in Seattle.
As the officer neared, the driver took off at a high rate of speed near 196th Street SW and Highway 99 in Lynnwood, Sessions said.
The officer pursued the driver southbound on Highway 99 for a short distance when the driver turned westbound into the hospital driveway and crashed into a tree, Sessions said.
No one else was injured and property damage in the hospital parking lot was minimal, Sessions said.
The suspect was identified as a Seattle man.
The suspect has an extensive criminal history and drugs are believed to have been involved in the incident, Sessions said.
