Driver held on $100,000 bail in wreck that killed 1, hurt 4

TACOMA — An 18-year-old Covington man is being held on $100,000 bail after a weekend car crash that killed one of his passengers.

The News Tribune reported that Bryson Stubbles appeared in Pierce County Superior Court on Thursday. He faces vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges. Commissioner Meagan Foley set bail.

The Washington State Patrol said Stubbles slammed his car into a tree after leaving a bonfire east of Enumclaw, killing 18-year-old Paco Frees, of Kent, and badly hurting himself and three others.

Troopers said the crash happened after 2:30 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of the 1990 Honda Accord, went over an embankment and hit the tree. Investigators said they believe he was impaired.
