VANCOUVER, Wash. — Clark County prosecutors say the man who drove into trick-or-treaters in Vancouver was under the influence of marijuana.
Papers filed for Tuesday’s court appearance of Duane C. Abbott say he smoked marijuana about three hours before Halloween crash.
The Columbian reports a judge ordered Abbott held on $750,000 bail for investigation of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. Vancouver lawyer James Sowder was appointed to represent him. Arraignment is set for Nov. 14.
Abbott told police he was changing lanes and lost control. He drove up on a sidewalk and hit four people.
Seven-year-old Cadence Boyer died at a hospital. Her mother, Annie Arnold, is in fair condition.
Another woman, Chelina Alsteen, is in critical condition.
A 6-year-old girl, whose parents don’t want named, is in serious condition.
