Driver killed in 1-car crash south of Stanwood

LAKEWOOD — Troopers with the Washington State Patrol were investigating a fatal one-car crash south of Stanwood on Saturday night.

The driver, whose age and gender were not immediately available, died after the car struck a tree off Highway 531 and 34th Avenue NW, trooper Heather Axtman said.

The driver was in a passenger car.

The roadway was closed for about three hours after the crash, which was reported shortly before 5 p.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
