LAKEWOOD — Police in Lakewood, near Tacoma say a federal agent shot and wounded a suspect in a narcotics investigation Wednesday night after the suspect hit the agent with his vehicle while trying to flee.
Lakewood Lt. Chris Lawler says the wounded man was taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Lawler says the federal agent was hit in the leg by the vehicle. The agent works for Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. ICE spokesman Andrew Munoz said the agent was treated at a hospital and released late Wednesday night. He was not identified.
Lawler says Lakewood officers as well as HSI and federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents were all part of a narcotics investigation led by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. The spokesman says agents converged on the suspect’s vehicle at a Lakewood intersection but he refused to obey their commands.
