Early primary election voting results Tuesday night show Republican Dave Earling and Democrat Aaron Reardon leading their respective races for county executive. They could face off in the general election Nov. 4.
Thousands of votes have been counted, but thousands more will be tallied later so some of the races could change.
Kevin Quigley was right behind Reardon and Betty E. Neighbors was giving Earling a run for his money.
The winner in November will take over for Bob Drewel, who couldn’t run again because of term limits.
In the race for county assessor, Cindy Portmann and Kent Hanson probably will face off, although Stuart W. Stavig is right behind Hanson.
Although both candidates advance because they were the only two running for County Council District 3, Republican incumbent Gary A. Nelson could be in for a fight to keep his spot after a strong challenge by D.J. Wilson, at least in early returns.
Five mayoral spots were voted on in the county.
NormaJean Dierck and Dennis L. Kendall are ahead in Marysville.
Incumbent Bob Kraski got bounced in Arlington, trailing both Dan Anderson and Margaret H. Larson.
Incumbent Lynn E. Walty and Larry Wagner look like they will advance in Lake Stevens.
Incumbent C.H. Rowe and Ben Tolson are leading in Sultan.
Incumbent Steven C. Fuller is getting ousted in Gold Bar as Colleen Hawkins and Jerry L. Wood are leading.
Five cities also voted on council races.
In Everett, Doug Campbell and David Simpson look to advance.
In Snohomish, the leaders are Lya Badgley and Greg S. Osborne; Don Everest and Larry Countryman; and Melody Clemans and Susan T. Palmer.
In Monroe, it’s likely Bryan Lipscy and Geoffrey O. Thomas.
In Sultan, John Dick and Jim Flower look to advance.
In Bothell, the leaders were Mark Lamb and Ernie Bellecy; Tim Olson and Andrea Perry; and Diana Dollar and Mike Johnson.
Carol Jason and Mark W. Johnson look to advance for the Marysville School Board. Gary Noble and Carrie McAfee are leading in the Edmonds School District.
Incumbent Phil Bannan leads and Valerie Steel is second in the race to be a commissioner for the Port of Everett.
Bruce W. Richards and Steven R. Towers were leading in the Fire District 4 race.
The emergency services levy was failing in Mukilteo but passing in districts 1 and 5.
In Island County, results weren’t scheduled to be posted until after 9 p.m. in the Oak Harbor mayor’s race and Fire District 1 commissioner contest.
