Scientists have discovered that earthworms contribute to the spread of giant ragweed, a nasty weed that makes us sniffle, by collecting and burying its seeds in their burrows, according to the Weed Science Society of America.
And all this time I thought garden gnomes were coming out at night and spreading weed seed around my yard.
Scientists have long been mystified by the rapid spread of giant ragweed, since it produces relatively few seeds. While the worms collect seeds from other plants, giant ragweed seems to be one of their favorite crops.
