MONROE — A man killed in a boating accident south of Monroe has been identified as a father of two from Snohomish County.
Malan R. Hanson, 48, of the Echo Lake area, lost control of a jet boat that was moving at a high speeds at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Snoqualmie River, near the 23500 block of High Bridge Road, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Hanson was thrown into the water. He hadn’t been wearing a life vest.
Witnesses pulled him from the river and performed CPR. He died in the ambulance, near Duvall. An autopsy showed Hanson had drowned, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. The death was ruled an accident.
His daughters, Sydnee and Erika, wrote in an online fundraiser that their father loved boating, took risks and was “the light of the party.”
“He had the biggest heart and loved his kids more than anything,” his daughters wrote.
About $10,000 had been raised as of Wednesday, to pay for memorial costs and his family’s future.
