A year and a half after the end of her historic presidential campaign, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Monday for the first time that she will not run for the job again, firmly setting aside a question that has followed her for most of the past decade.
She has dismissed the notion of a future presidential bid before, and even her most hopeful supporters have conceded that a 2016 Clinton campaign won’t happen. It’s unlikely any Democrat would challenge President Barack Obama in 2012, when he is all but certain to run for re-election.
“Will you ever run for president again? Yes or no?” NBC’s Ann Curry asked her in an interview.
“No,” Clinton said. “I mean, this is a great job. It is a 24/7 job. And I’m looking forward to retirement at some point.”
Clinton arrived in Moscow on Monday, and plans to press Russian leaders for “specific forms of pressure” against Iran if the regime fails to comply with international demands to prove its nuclear program is peaceful.
