EDMONDS — Three people were displaced from an Edmonds condominium Thursday after a fire caused $20,000 damage.
No one was hurt in the blaze which was reported just after 11 a.m. in the 7800 block of 196th Street SW, said Leslie Hynes, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman.
The owner called 911 when she arrived home and saw the townhouse full of smoke, Hynes said.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze. The homeowner has insurance.
Investigators believe combustibles placed too close to an electric wall heater likely sparked the fire. They ruled the blaze accidental.
“Unfortunately, we’ve seen quite a few fires this winter that started the same way,” Hynes said.
People should be sure to keep all combustibles — papers, books, furniture, curtains and clothing — at least 3 feet away from heaters.
