LYNNWOOD — The list of applicants to become the next superintendent of the Edmonds School District has been narrowed to six.
The six semi-finalists are: Deb Clemens, superintendent of the Cheney Public Schools; Matt Handelman, superintendent, Coeur d’Alene Public Schools in Idaho; Flip Herndon, associate superintendent, Seattle Public Schools; Kris McDuffy, superintendent, Arlington Public Schools; Carolyn O’Keefe, deputy superintendent, Northshore School District; and Chrys Sweeting, assistant superintendent, Puyallup School District.
The school board is scheduled to interview the six candidates from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 19 at Edmonds-Woodway High School’s Great Hall, 7600 212th St. SW.
The meeting is open to the public and those attending the meeting will be able to provide written comments about the candidates, according to school district spokeswoman Debbie Joyce Jakala.
The school board is expected to select three finalists by March 22. Each will tour schools and meet with staff and administrators for a day between March 28-30.
The public can hear from the three finalists from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 31 at Mountlake Terrace High School’s theater, 21801 44th Ave W. The event also will be broadcast live on the internet.
The school board expects to select a new superintendent by early-to-mid April.
Overall, 26 people contacted the district for more information about the opening and 18 people applied, Jakala said.
Superintendent Nick Brossoit announced in December that he would leave the district at the end of the school year. He was hired in spring off 2004.
His base salary this year is $243,266. Total compensation is $265,466 according to school district records.
The Edmonds School District is the largest in the county, with an enrollment of 20,683 students. That ranks it as the 11th largest school district in the state.
