EDMONDS — Edmonds-area firefighters are asking for donations to pay for the construction of a 9/11 memorial planned outside Fire Station 17 downtown.
The memorial will include a one-ton steel beam from the World Trade Center.
The efforts to build it are organized by the Local 1828, which represents firefighters with Snohomish County Fire District 1.
Construction for the memorial is expected to cost $150,000. No tax dollars can be used.
In addition, the union is raffling off a handmade glass firefighter’s helmet worth an estimated $2,000.
Raffle tickets are $34.30.
Donations or requests for raffle tickets can be sent to P.O. Box 12915, Everett, WA 98206-2915.
