EDMONDS – The City Council plans to vote next Monday on whether to have Snohomish County Fire District 1 run its fire department beginning in January.
Mayor Gary Haakenson urged the council on Tuesday night to agree to a $6.2 million contract with the fire district, which serves about 150,000 south county residents, saying it will save the city nearly $100,000 annually through 2012 while providing as good or better service than it now gets.
Two council members have expressed reservations about the plan.
