EDMONDS — Police held a special informational session for children this week after a boy found a gun in the bushes in Edmonds.
The boy, 6, found the .22-caliber pistol near his home on Jan. 29, Edmonds police Sgt. Don Anderson said.
The boy and his friends thought the gun was a toy and played with it before telling their parents, Anderson said. A parent brought the gun to the police department. It later turned out the gun was real and loaded, but too corroded to fire.
On Wednesday, Edmonds police Sgt. Ken Ploeger met with about 30 children and their parents on Wednesday to teach them about firearms safety, Anderson said. The meeting helped parents talk to their children about what to do if they find a gun or if someone shows them a gun.
