LYNNWOOD — Edmonds teachers have reached a tentative agreement with the school district on a new three-year contract, which if approved by members will allow classes to start on time on Sept. 6.
“We’re very excited about that,” Andi Nofziger-Meadows, president of the Edmonds Education Association, said Tuesday afternoon. “Now our teachers can focus on getting ready for the classroom and not having to worry about the contract.”
Further details of the proposed agreement won’t be disclosed until a membership meeting on Aug. 29, Nofziger-Meadows said.
The Edmonds School Board, which meets that evening, also must approve the contract.
Debbie Joyce Jakala, a school district spokeswoman, said the district appreciated the hard work and dedication of both bargaining teams. “I cannot be more pleased,” she said.
Teachers and parents rallied outside the Edmonds School District’s headquarters last week and packed a school board meeting to show support for their issues, which they said included the need for smaller class sizes.
Negotiations resumed on Monday after three earlier sessions this month.
Monday’s negotiating sessions lasted 13 hours. Tuesday’s talks resumed at 8 a.m. and wrapped up about 12:30 p.m.
Nofziger-Meadows said she wanted to thank the public for support. “Both the district and the association have reached an agreement that we feel will serve students and staff well over the next three years,” she said.
