Edmonds teen accidentally shot in face by another

EDMONDS — A 16-year-old boy was shot in the face Friday while he and another youth were "goofing around" with a gun, police said.

The boy was listed in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The shooting occurred at a private residence in the area of 208th Street SW and 76th Avenue W. at about 6:30 p.m., Edmonds police Sgt. Jerry Gannon said. Police received a call from the victim’s father, who said an unknown male had shot his son, Gannon said.

Officers from Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace and Lynnwood set up a containment area and searched for the suspect. A Lynnwood officer found the boy, also 16, riding away on a bicycle. He showed them where the gun had been tossed, Gannon said.

The boy who allegedly fired the gun was being questioned by police Friday evening. At this point, the shooting appears to have been an accident, he said.

"The kids apparently know each other," Gannon said.

Sexual assault: A woman was confronted Friday inside her garage and raped by a man who fled after stealing cash from her purse.

The incident occurred about 11 a.m. Friday at an undisclosed address in the Granite Falls area, Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.

The woman told deputies she went into her garage to get into her car and encountered the man there. She suffered minor injuries fighting with her assailant, Jorgensen said. She was treated at a local hospital.

The rapist did not display a weapon. He fled on foot after taking an undisclosed amount of cash.

Authorities described the rapist as white, in his late 20s, about 6 feet, 190 to 200 pounds, with sandy blond hair that was short on the side. He was wearing dark blue jeans, a dark blue T-shirt and a wool black-and-blue checkered red jacket.

Investigators ask anyone with information on the incident to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.

About 4 p.m., the robber entered Key Bank at 1600 California St., approached the tellers, said he had a gun and demanded a specific sum of money, Everett police Lt. Greg Lineberry said. The man did not display a weapon.

He took the money and fled on foot, heading northbound.

Police searched the area but were unable to find him. Everett police and the FBI are investigating. Detectives ask anyone with information on the robbery to call the police tip line at 425-257-8450, or the FBI in Seattle at 206-622-0460.
