Eight-car pileup causes huge jam on northbound I-5

EVERETT — An eight-car collision just south of Everett on I-5 on Friday caused a tremendous traffic jam and blocked three northbound lanes for 45 minutes.

Traffic slowed to a crawl after the multicar crash happened near the Broadway exit at around 1 p.m. Three people suffered minor injuries but were treated at the scene and did not need to go to the hospital.

The eight cars were all going north when one car rear-ended another, leading to a string of read-end collisions, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The lanes were cleared at around 1:45 p.m.

Fire ruling: A fire that caused extensive damage to a home in the 1400 block of Lombard Avenue on Sunday morning was apparently started by a malfunctioning gas heater, city fire officials said Friday.

The blaze has been ruled an accident. No one was injured in the fire.

Tulalip

Pharmacy burglarized: Burglars stole a large quantity of prescription medication from the Tulalip Tribal Health Clinic and Pharmacy early Thursday morning, police said.

"They got away with a lot of narcotics," said Tulalip Tribal Police Chief Jay Goss Jr.

He said the burglary was reported at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Police suspect the burglary occurred around 2 a.m. Thursday and that the burglars spent a half-hour to 45 minutes breaking open the pharmacy safe, where some of the pharmacy’s strongest drugs were stored.

Mountlake Terrace

Man robbed: A passenger on a Community Transit bus was robbed at gunpoint of his watch and MP3 player Thursday afternoon, police said.

The man told police a fellow passenger showed him the gun and demanded his valuables, said Mountlake Terrace Police Sgt. D. Hansen. The two men were the only passengers on the bus and the robbery apparently occurred without the knowledge of the bus driver, Hansen said. Police have not arrested a suspect, he said.

The victim was not injured. The robbery occurred at around 4:20 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of 56th Ave. W and 244th St. SW.

Lynnwood

Woman burned: A woman suffered burns Wednesday night after the pan she was heating cooking oil in caught fire.

The woman, who attempted to carry the pan outside, reportedly was burned on her arms and back, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

The woman was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus, but information was not available about her condition.

The woman’s apartment, located in the 500 block of 164th St. S.W. had light smoke damage, Hynes said. The fire was reported at 7:36 p.m.
