EDMONDS – Eight teenage girls at a sleepover escaped unharmed this morning when the house caught fire.
Fire crews were summoned to the one-story home in the 17500 block of 72nd Avenue W. shortly after 11 a.m., Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman leslie Hynes said. The girls told fire investigators they saw smoke coming from the home’s daylight basement and heard smoke alarms.
More than 30 firefighters responded, Hynes said. “When they arrived, half the house was engulfed and flames were already through the roof,” she said. Crews had to attack the blaze from the outside.
The two-alarm fire destroyed the home.
Nobody was injured. Red Cross volunteers responded to help the family renting the home.
Officials continue to investigate what caused the fire, Hynes said.
