EDMONDS — An 84-year-old woman suffered serious burns Wednesday evening after her clothing caught fire.
Firefighters were summoned to the 200 block of Third Avenue S. just before 6 p.m., Edmonds Fire Department Battalion Chief Donald White said. A neighbor heard a smoke alarm go off and found the woman in her kitchen with her clothing on fire.
The neighbor calmly extinguished the flames and called for help, saving the woman’s life and preventing the fire from spreading, White said.
Medics rushed the woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with burns covering more than 30 percent of her body. Her condition was not known Wednesday night.
