MONROE — Everett Community College is inviting everyone in the eastern part of the county to see its newest facility.
The college has scheduled an open house at its East County Campus starting at 4 p.m. today in the Lake Tye Building, 14090 Fryelands Blvd. SE.
The event is to introduce the courses and other services it provides to people living in Monroe, Sultan, Gold Bar and the rest of east Snohomish County.
Monroe Mayor Robert Zimmerman and EvCC President David Beyer will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
The ceremony is the official inauguration, but the campus started its second quarter last week with 200 students enrolled.
The new satellite campus makes EvCC more accessible to people who have trouble getting to Everett, director of the East County campus Sheila Dunn said.
“Population growth patterns indicate the quickest growth will be in this part of the county,” Dunn said.
Every Thursday someone from the Everett campus will be in Monroe to help prospective students register for classes and apply for federal financial aid.
“We are bringing more student services to Lake Tye,” Dunn said.
Registration for the next quarter starts Feb. 15. There will be 11 classes offered in the spring.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will also show appreciation to the Monroe School District, which since 1999 has provided EvCC space at Monroe High School and Park Place Middle School for its programs. Currently, the Lake Tye Building is the only one of the three Monroe sites where classes are offered during the day for college credit.
