EVERETT — Everett Community College started as a few classes in an old elementary school 70 years ago.
Today, school officials are facing a challenging future, one with less financial support from the state and a growing enrollment.
The school is in the midst of trying to map out a future.
The college is inviting the public to what is being described as “visioning events” Friday and Saturday.
They want to know what you think about what that future should be like; they really do.
“We really will be listening, and we’ll be incorporating those ideas into our overall vision,” said John Bonner, an executive director of the school’s Continuing Education Center. He is helping organize the event.
This is the first time in the school’s history that officials have sought out public input on this scale.
The event, part of an eight-month strategic planning process, will feature a review of the issues the college faces and a chance for people to talk about what the school’s priorities ought to be.
The event is a bit of a commitment. Organizers want people to show up both days.
The event is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Since the school is offering refreshments and making sure everyone has a seat, organizers would like anyone interested to call or email first: 425-297-3140 or strategicplanning@everettcc.edu.
