  • Book discussion, “The Things They Carried,” 2 p.m. Vietnam veterans from VFW Post No. 1040 share war experiences.

    Arlington: American Legion Post No. 76 Memorial Day parade and dedication ceremony; 6 a.m. flags posted at Arlington Cemetery, 20310 67th Ave. NE; 7 a.m. breakfast for volunteers, 115 N. Olympic Ave.; 10 a.m. parade, on N. Olympic Avenue; ceremony, 11 a.m.

  • Arlington Cemetery ceremony, noon, Pioneer Cemetery at E. Fifth Street and N. Gifford Avenue; 5 p.m., flags taken down.

    Darrington: Ceremony by the Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars, 1:15 p.m., Darrington Cemetery, Highway 530. Refreshments to follow.

    Edmonds: Ceremony, 11 a.m., Edmonds Memorial Cemetery, 820 15th St. SW. Refreshments served. Sign language translation provided. Dale Hoggins serves as master of ceremonies. Recognition for World War II veterans; Jane Cunningham, Women’s Air Service Pilot (WASP) and Congressional Gold Medal recipient; welcome home for Washington National Guard members who served in Iraq.

    Everett: Everett Elks Lodge No. 479, Everett Emblem No. 523 and Boy Scouts Troop No. 1 place 3,000 flags on graves of veterans for Memorial Day weekend. Breakfast, 7 to 11 a.m., 2802 Hoyt Ave., Everett. $8 benefits Christmas food basket fund. 425-252-4179.

  • Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett at 9:30 a.m. Sno-King Chapter 423 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Speaker is Paul Spilsbury, senior naval science instructor for the Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training program at Mariner High School.

    Snohomish County Central Memorial Committee ceremony, 11 a.m., Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum, 4504 Broadway, Everett. Lunch, 12:30 p.m. Fleet Reserve, Branch No. 170, 6802 Beverly Blvd. $5. 425-258-4201.

    Machias: American Legion Post No. 181 Memorial Day Service, noon, Machias Community Cemetery, 1204 Silva St., Snohomish. 21-gun salute.

    Marysville: American Legion Post No. 178 Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony, 11 a.m., Marysville Cemetery, 8801 State Ave. Driveways lined with flags during the three-day weekend.

    Mill Creek: Veterans Monument dedication ceremony, 10 a.m., Library Park, 15429 Bothell-Everett Highway.

    Monroe: American Legion Post No. 58 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Day Service, 11 a.m., Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery, 21714 Old Owen Road.

    Stanwood: American Legion Post 92 service, 11 a.m., Anderson Cemetery, a mile south of Stanwood on Pioneer Highway. Potluck lunch follows at the post.

    Sultan: Veterans of Foreign Wars Ceremony, 10 a.m., Sultan Cemetery, Cascade View Drive off U.S. 2.
