EVERETT — An Everett attorney wasn’t seriously hurt after being attacked by his client during a hearing at the Snohomish County courthouse Monday.
Defense attorney Thomas Cox declined to comment Monday because the alleged attacker still is his client.
Detectives initially arrested the man, 27, in January after a fatal shooting in the Everett area. He’s been at the Snohomish County Jail awaiting trial, his bail set at $1 million.
Monday’s stabbing occurred just before noon. The lawyer was stabbed in the neck with a pencil, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The lawyer was not seriously injured, Hover said. He was treated at the scene and was not taken to the hospital.
Court was in session. The man’s trial in connection with the fatal shooting is scheduled for later this year.
The stabbing Monday will be referred to the prosecutor’s office for review, Hover said.
