EVERETT — Cassie Franklin, 46, was sworn in Wednesday night as Everett’s new mayor. She is the first woman elected to the position.
“I’m very excited to get to work,” she said.
Everett has had 35 previous mayors, going back to 1893, according to city records. The longest serving was the most recent, Ray Stephanson, who had 14 years on the job.
Franklin has a background in nonprofit management. She has been on the City Council since 2016. She won the November election with 44.65 percent of the vote.
A 55-member transition team is expected to deliver a report in the weeks ahead to guide Franklin’s administration.
The mayor’s job pays about $182,000 per year.
