EVERETT — On Wednesday, the Everett City Council approved a fare hike that will double the cost of a ride on Everett Transit.
By July 2019, the fares for adult and paratransit riders will increase from $1 to $2. For youth, the price will change from $0.75 to $1.50. The cost for senior or disabled passengers will rise to $0.50. The increases will happen in two stages starting at the beginning of next year.
The agency plans to introduce a low-income fare which could go into effect as early as next summer.
Everett Transit, which has one of the lowest fares in the region, proposed the increase as the agency faces a budget shortfall.
